Best Baby Floor Seat for Children Under 25 Pounds

When we started having babies, I knew we would need some essential items. We looked for a floor mat, Jumperoo, and floor seat. We’ve already covered the floor mat and Jumperoo here on eciov, so now it’s time to talk about the best baby floor seat. Bumbo was a household name — everyone seemed to have one — but one of my friends gave me a different recommendation. She had been using the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat with her children and liked it enough to recommend it to me. I decided to give it a shot and ended up choosing it as the best baby floor seat for our kids.

Best Baby Floor Seat

Our best baby floor seat encourages babies to sit up on their own; however, it also has enough support for younger babies who aren’t quite there yet. The high back ensures babies will not fall backward while the front frame allows them to lean forward and stay in place. When I first started using this seat with my kids, they sat back and watched the world happen around them. Once they were four or five months, they could pull themselves forward and begin interacting with the toys that attach to the front.

At six months old, I began feeding my kids solids. This best baby floor seat gave me the perfect place to introduce new foods. They could hold on to the front frame or the toys while learning how to eat with a spoon. As most mothers expect, food often ends up everywhere but a child’s mouth. Thankfully, this isn’t an issue with the floor seat because it has a removable soft cover. You can rinse it in the sink or toss it in the washing machine after an explosive eating session. Those are the best! :) Fisher Price also sells this seat with a tray attached, which makes for even easier baby feeding.

We also take our best baby floor seat camping with us so we don’t have to pack an extra high chair or booster seat. The floor seat folds flat for easy storage and travel. The wide base is very sturdy; it sets up anywhere on flat ground so my baby can be a part of the action. Even a little dirt from the campsite rinses right off allowing it to always stay in my mix of must-haves to keep my baby happy.

Another nice feature is that this floor seat is large enough to accommodate babies up to 25 pounds. Even my 21-month-old son likes to slide into it when I’m not looking! This floor seat provides the support babies need along with being compact and easily washable. It’s a great resource for moms with tired arms! I’d encourage you to give it a shot!

As with all our recommendations, we hope our best baby floor seat works well for you. We’re open to feedback and product suggestions from our readers. If you’ve used something else you think is better than our main pick, please let us know in the comments or via the email link in the sidebar. We’ll check out any new items and replace our main pick if something better comes along. Until that time, we believe that the Fisher Price Sit-Me-Up Floor Seat is the best baby floor seat for most people.

Best Baby Floor Seat Competitors

We’ve spent a lot of time looking at the competition so we thought we’d share the alternatives here and explain why we decided to eliminate them as our top pick. Note: None of the choices listed below have the ability to collapse and flatten for easier storing and transport. They also do not allow baby to learn how to support himself.

  • Bumbo: This is an incredibly popular choice among parents. We eliminated it as our top choice because it does not have a built in tray or place to attach toys. It also requires a seat belt so children cannot arch their backs and pop themselves out. Babies must be able to hold their heads very well to use this seat because there is no high back support.
  • Summer Infant Support-Me: Though similar to the Bumbo, this seat has a chair strap and removable insert so it can grow with the child. However, there are three separate pieces which don’t always fit together quite right. Each piece needs to be cleaned rather than one piece that can be tossed in the wash.
  • Ingenuity Baby Base: This seat is meant to be more of a booster seat and used for feeding. It has a buckle that must be used each time it is used. The tray can be stored under the seat, which is a nice feature. However, you cannot attach toys to the front to keep baby interested.
